Movement Rhizome was proud to collaborate in the online launch of South Asian Dance Intersections (SADI) Journal 4.0, held on 18 January 2026.
The online launch was organised by the Dance Studies Sub-committee of the ICTMD Sri Lanka National Committee and the International Organization of Folk Art (IOV) Science & Research Commission – Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Movement Rhizome Collective.
The launch brought together scholars, artists, practitioners, researchers, and members of the wider dance community to celebrate the continuing development of a platform dedicated to South Asian dance research and practice. The event recognised the importance of creating spaces where scholarship does not remain separated from artistic practice, embodied knowledge, community engagement, and social questions.
South Asian Dance Intersections (SADI) is a progressive, scholarly, blind peer-reviewed, and open-access journal dedicated to original research and creative explorations within South Asian dance and its interdisciplinary intersections. The journal provides space for scholarly, choreographic, contemporary, community-building, and technical approaches to dance, while also welcoming policy and theory, reflection essays, book and resource reviews, and arts-based works.
At the heart of SADI is a commitment to bringing the discursive and the embodied into dialogue. Dance is not approached only as an object that can be written about; it can also be a form of knowledge, a mode of inquiry, and a way of thinking through the body.
The journal further creates a space for artists and scholar-practitioners to engage with questions of artistic excellence, social justice, community, pedagogy, and cultural practice. In doing so, it contributes to a broader movement toward recognising multiple forms of knowledge production within South Asian performing arts.
The launch of Journal 4.0 was therefore not simply a celebration of another publication. It marked another point of connection between researchers, artists, institutions, and communities working across the diverse landscapes of South Asian dance.
For Movement Rhizome, this collaboration reflects our continuing commitment to creating non-hierarchical spaces for exchange, spaces where knowledge can travel across disciplines, borders, bodies, and practices.
From movement to writing, from performance to research, and from individual practice to collective knowledge, SADI continues to create intersections.
Movement Rhizome was honoured to be part of this growing conversation.
